"Furniture by Fred" was established to produce fine hardwood furniture that would be worthy of becoming a family heirloom.

Fred's background includes a Master's degree in Industrial Arts Education with an emphasis in woodworking from Northern State College in Aberdeen, South Dakota. For a number of years , he taught at the  high school level.  He then went into the furniture industry working for Keller Manufacturing,builders of oak bedroom and dining room furniture,  in quality control.   Maintaining his furniture building skills in his own shop at home in beautiful southern Indiana, he has built a variety of types of cabinetry and furniture through the years.

Fred's furniture is characterized by uncompromising quality-all hardwood construction using walnut, cherry, mahogany, oak and poplar depending on the period of the piece or the preference of the customer; dove-tail joinery on drawers; mortise and tenon joints, which are sometimes pegged; carefully selected pieces for wood panels to enhance the grain pattern and reduce warpage; a finish which gives a hand rubbed appearance; and appropriate hardware of wood or solid brass.

Fred builds only a limited number of pieces at a time due to the handcrafted detail involved in each piece.  The pieces range from fine antique reproductions to unique kitchen islands.
